Railway infrastructure plays an important role in the economic growth of a country. To this end, the Ministry of Transport and Communications (MTC) signed a memorandum of understanding with the British Embassy in Peru to receive assistance, and within this framework prepared a Railway Development Master Plan for 2050.

This agreement aims to enable specialists from both countries to share knowledge, experience and technology to promote the development of Peru’s railway system. In addition, both parties will form a working group.
“This memorandum will allow us to learn about good practices from the first world. “Peru needs to develop its railway infrastructure to increase its productivity and become more competitive, so that people can transport in a safer, more efficient and dignified way,” said the Minister of Transport and Communications, Raúl Pérez Reyes, regarding its relevance. the agreement.
The head of the MTC signed the document with the British Ambassador to Peru, Gavin Cook. Deputy Minister of Transportation Ismael Sutta and British Prime Minister Mark Menzies’ commercial envoy also took part in the activity.
In the same vein, the MTC Chairman highlighted the efforts made to expand the road network, but he proposed to include a new perspective that considers these roads as routes of the railway system.
At the end of the signing of the memorandum of understanding, Minister Pérez Reyes stated that “the train is back.”
Meanwhile, Deputy Minister of Transportation Ismael Sutta highlighted the role of MTC in establishing policies, regulations, implementation, authorization and provision of services for the national railway system, which means developing strategies according to needs. and demands.

In this regard, the sector is working on a Railway Development Master Plan for 2050, which will set out guidelines and policies on how this should be implemented. national rail system.
