Industrial engineer Saint Paul Catholic University (UCSP), Valeria Sofía Polanco Zevallos, is studying a master’s degree in Global Supply Chain Management at University of Leeds, in England. His rewards were doubled because he obtained a grant from the college and also won the “Generación del Bicentenario” scholarship from Pronabec (National Scholarship and Education Credit Program).

The University of Leeds is among the top 100 universities in the world. He was ranked 75th in the prestigious QS World University 2024 ranking. The postgraduate degree he studied there was Global Supply Chain Management.

“Having the opportunity to study a master’s degree, in the field where I work professionally, at one of the best universities in the world, is an opportunity for development that will help me in my future plans. “I like logistics, especially international logistics, and I think this is a specialization that can bring benefits to the country, increasing competitiveness in the supply chain,” he said.

Her master’s degree lasts one year and she started her studies in September. Valeria wants to continue her postgraduate studies in England because this country has universities with the best postgraduate programs in the region.

Valeria completed her studies at UCSP in 2018. It was her first work experience that pushed her towards international logistics and pushed her to achieve her goal of studying a postgraduate degree abroad.

“My professors at San Pablo were my academic references. I finished my degree in 2018 and started working in 2019. From the moment I started working, I knew that I wanted to study my postgraduate degree abroad. “Implementing a plan like this takes time and dedication, now (2023) I’m making it happen,” he commented.

PLANS FOR THE FUTURE

Valeria recommends students interested in leaving the country to complete their studies, to prepare for this purpose of their undergraduate studies, have good academic performance, learn English and develop activities that contribute to the scholarship evaluation; such as publishing articles in scientific journals, volunteering, getting letters of recommendation from teachers, and so on.

“My advice (to students) is to set clear goals from the start. Determine where they want to go in the future and make a plan to get there. They have to put in a lot of effort throughout their undergraduate and professional lives. “You have to look beyond the everyday,” he points out.

GOOD CAREER

He also mentioned that he studied industrial Engineering because he likes numbers, business production processes and because of a career with many possibilities in the field of work. “I chose Industrial Engineering, because of the many possibilities it offers you to work in various fields (…), it is a good career that prepares you to be a good professional in various industrial fields and companies,” he points out.

Regarding San Pablo, he considered San Pablo to be a university that met his expectations because of its demands and academic standards. “I demand a lot from myself and the university is up to the task. “Have high academic standards, as well as supporting courses and others that help you develop professionally,” he concluded.
