Former British Prime Minister David Cameron entered Rishi Sunak’s government this Monday (13/11/2023) as Head of Foreign Affairs replacing James Smartas part of an Executive reshuffle in which the controversial Home Affairs chief, Suella Bravermanleave his position.
To take office, Cameron will be appointed a lord so he can enter the Upper House as an MP, which is a condition for joining the Executive.
The appointment of Cameron, who stepped down as prime minister in June 2016 after losing the “Brexit” referendum, has caused a huge shock in the British media and analysts.
After leaving Downing Street, Cameron did not continue as an MP and left the front row of British politics to engage in private business.
Earlier, Sunak appointed Cleverly as the new Home Secretary, after Suella Braverman was removed from her post following controversy for criticizing the forces of order.
The conservative Head of Government this Monday unveiled a reshuffle of his Executive, taking into account general elections scheduled for 2024, possibly in May.
Sunak sacked Braverman after the turmoil he caused in the political world for publicly criticizing the Police, whom he accused of having “double standards” and supporting pro-Palestinian demonstrations.
