PODCASTS: In this year’s final episode of Pod Britannia, we recap 2022 and talk about what made the biggest impression in this very important year.
Politically, this year has been very chaotic. There’s a lot going on at 10 Downing Street, Prime Ministers come and go. The UK has had to deal with three of them this year – Boris Johnson, Liz Truss and Rishi Sunak. Truss had to step down after just a few weeks as prime minister.
In September, the era ended when Queen Elizabeth died after 70 years on the throne.
In Northern Ireland, there was a historic election in May, in which the pro-Irish nationalist party, Sinn Féin, became the largest party for the first time. There is still no Northern Ireland government.
In Scotland, the desire to hold an independence referendum is again high on the agenda and is also the subject of the UK Supreme Court.
We talk about all this on the podcast, and also look forward to 2023. Will the Conservative Party manage to recover after a miserable year? The Labor Party is now far ahead in all opinion polls. What are Northern Ireland’s chances of getting a new government? And what happened in Scotland?
