LONDON (Nettavis): Handball player Britt Goodwin, who also won the reality series Big Brother at home in Norway, will be in action this summer during the Olympics in London, but not for Norway.
Gjøvikjenta also has a British passport, and it has long been clear that he would be part of England’s handball efforts ahead of the Olympics on the island. On Saturday, Team GB played their first match at the Olympics.
– Have no words
And although Montenegro lost, obviously, England’s handball girls were hailed as heroes by the crowd in the packed Copper Box. The atmosphere in the arena was truly electric.
– It’s amazing, I’ve never been involved in anything like that. I have no words, he told Nettavisen.
– The audience seemed to like what they saw?
– Yes, it really cheered us up because the whole audience supported us. “It’s really helped us,” Goodwin said.
When Norway met France moments later, the majority of the crowd were still in the hall, and ensured that the Norwegian girls also benefited from England’s ability and willingness to create life and excitement in the stands.
– Together with Norway, they might be able to look further into what handball really is, says gjøvik girl.
– Trained for a year
Handball is not a big sport in England and it takes time to prepare a team for the Olympics. The squad is mostly made up of amateur players, and the team has been training for the past year to improve their level.
– I live in London since July 2011, we live at Crystal Palace and train together two days a day. We have been a club team and a national team. “It’s been a great experience,” Goodwin said.

– How good is this team?
– At the start of the year, we lost against a second division team that came and played us. Towards the end, we beat an elite Hungarian league team before the Olympics, so we really recovered.
Now the hope is that handball will gain more ground in England.
– That’s what we expected. We want to inspire British people to take up handball. This is the perfect sport for the British. It’s inside, lots of goals, atmosphere and fun, said the handball player.
– Home to Norway
Once the Olympics are over and the British handball team is history, Goodwin hopes to continue his handball career in Norway. He previously played in elite series for Gjøvik and Vardal HK.
– The plan is to go back to Norway, but I don’t have a club yet, so I hope someone wants me. I really want to play more in the elite series, so we’ll see, said the Gjøvik girl.
– At least I will return to A-Hus (Akershus University Hospital), my usual job, he concluded.
PS. Britt Goodwin scored two goals on four shots against Montenegro. Nina Heglund, also from Norway, played for Great Britain in the match. Likewise with Trønder girl Zoey van der Weel.
