LATEST NEWS | Russian nuclear submarine off UK coast prompts emergency meeting

Amid rising tensions and nuclear rhetoric between NATO and Russia, a Russian nuclear submarine was spotted off the coast of England, prompting an emergency meeting. The submarine, identified as the advanced ship Kazan, was detected on June 5 by an RAF P-8 Poseidon anti-submarine aircraft, which deployed sonar buoys to track its movements in the deep sea.

The Kazan, a 13,800 tonne vessel, was monitored as it headed near the Faslane naval base in Scotland, raising concerns about a possible probe into vulnerabilities in the NATO perimeter. The sighting follows Russian President Vladimir Putin’s recent pledge to punish the West for its support of Ukraine with long-range missiles and £40 billion in loans using frozen Russian assets.
