Sunak regrets: UK economy improving but problems remain

Rishi Sunak, the leader of the Conservative Party, has apologized to the people for disappointing and not living up to the expectations of the people who decided to trust him. Sergio Castaño, professor of international relations at UCJC, stated that “Rishi Sunak apologizes to the people, apologizing for disappointing and not living up to the expectations of those who decided to trust him.”

“Rishi Sunak is not an elected president but a president directly elected by the conservative party because it is assumed that an economist is needed to solve the situation that the UK is experiencing,” Castaño explained. His technical profile and experience in economics are expected to be key in solving the country’s economic problems. However, although there has been an improvement in macroeconomics, this has not had a positive impact on people’s daily lives. Castaño believes that “in macroeconomics it can be said that the situation in the UK has improved, but all these actions must be reflected in the UK’s pockets and this has not been achieved.”

In addition to the economic issues, the healthcare system also continues to be a major challenge. “There is also a problem with the healthcare system, it is a fundamental problem that cannot be solved in two years and Rishi Sunak does not have the capacity to solve it,” commented Castaño. The lack of improvement in key sectors has contributed to growing dissatisfaction with Sunak’s government.

The recent change of government, which saw Labour return to power after 14 years in power, was also framed in the context of widespread discontent. “After 14 years, Labour returned to power and let’s see, there was talk about the vote and that the vote was based on the handling of the pandemic, which was an absolute disaster,” Castaño said. The handling of the pandemic, marked by the controversial parties in Downing Street under Boris Johnson, has left a deep impression on public perception.
