Anthony Albanese serves as Prime Minister of Australia

MADRID, May 23. (EUROPEAN PRESS) –

Labor leader Anthony Albanese was sworn in on Monday as Australia’s Prime Minister, and has assured that his ultimate goal is to lead “a government that is brave, hardworking and supportive like the people”.

At the age of 59, Albanese has served as Australia’s 31st Prime Minister, saying on his Twitter account: “I am very honored to serve Australia as Prime Minister. I want to bring people together and lead a government that is brave and hardworking. Supports like people. Australia. The work starts today.”

Similarly, Penny Wong has been sworn in as Minister for Foreign Affairs, Richard Marles as Minister for Employment and Deputy Prime Minister for Australia, Jim Chalmers and Kathy Gallagher have served as portfolio heads of Treasury and Finance, respectively.

One of the distinguishing parts of his Labor Party proposal in the campaign is foreign policy. Albanese has vowed to rebuild fractured ties with France, which infuriated Morrison by scrapping a $90 billion submarine deal in favor of the so-called AUKUS security pact with the United States and Britain.

Albanese is currently on a plane to Japan with Foreign Minister Penny Wong to attend a summit of the leaders of the Quad Security Dialogue (Quad).

The summit will kick off on Tuesday in Tokyo and will also include the participation of Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida, United States President Joe Biden and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
