EUGENE (Dagbladet): Jakob Ingebrigtsen was in a class of his own at 5,000 meters last night.
The Norwegian won exactly as he wanted, and was very proud of the way he did it.
Rivals react: – Madness
Another thing Dagbladet noticed was that the 21-year-old driver drank water during last night’s race.
A glass of water may not be the most eye-catching thing at first, but it’s very unusual at such “short” distances – and no competitor does.
– I’ve never seen anything like this before, says NRK expert Jann Post.
And that was clearly important to Ingebrigtsen. He failed the first time running to the water table, but still took another chance on the next lap.
In front of Dagbladet, Jakob Ingebrigtsen describes the special election:
– It is good that you can test the distance in the trial. My mouth went dry when we ran it, and it was annoying all the way through. It doesn’t necessarily affect the performance, but when it gets late enough and I feel I have the energy, I decide to drink during the final. It worked fine.
– Nobody else did it?
– No, I got a lot of help both with warming up and keeping me cool. I have a good team around me. Many of them have to value my performance as well as mine, said Ingebrigtsen.
Earlier in the championship, Amalie Iuel also reacted to the fact that no one followed the Norwegian cooling plan. You can read more about it here:
