The PlayStation Store is being singled out for its “fraud” policy in the UK after a lawsuit was filed with the Court of Appeals for Competition in recent days, where it was confirmed that there were excessive commissions in favor of the Japanese company.
Alex Neill is the defense presiding over this lawsuit, in which it is alleged that Sony violated competition law by suing for a share of every purchase made in virtual stores and The “overcharge” on these transactions was more than £5bn ($5.9bn) over the last six years.

And according to the plaintiff’s estimates, there will be around 9 million affected people, who bought the game or DLC between 2016 and 2022. So everyone can get between £67 and £562 in damages, plus interest.

This whole situation occurs because the PlayStation Store charges a 30% commission for every purchase made by a user on the platform.the value the plaintiffs consider is very high, taking into account that others like Epic are asking for 12%, but that’s the same as others like Xbox and Steam.

“With this legal action, I am defending the millions of people in the UK who have unknowingly been overcharged. We believe that Sony is abusing its position and defrauding its customers,” Neill said in an interview with SkyNews.
While it’s not clear whether the lawsuit demands that Sony not charge any commissions for third-party sales in its digital stores, or if 30% should be reduced.
