The UK Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) has decided to allow the proposed merger between NortonLifeLock and Avast given that there are enough competitors in the cybersecurity sector for the company’s operations to not put consumers at risk.
The CMA has reached this conclusion after an investigation in its second phase, having initially noted competitive issues.
Regulators have detailed that the offer of cybersecurity ‘software’ to consumers is growing rapidly. In this case, antivirus or VPN providers are constantly evolving, both paid and free.
Authorities have indicated that the main competitor of the merged company is McAfee, as well as other providers in the UK. In addition, it should be taken into account that the cybersecurity solutions that Microsoft has included in Windows, its operating system, in recent years are also important competitors.
