The European Union is preparing for the first summit of the European Political Community, the format of which seeks to engage continental countries to enhance cooperation on security issues, next month in Prague with the leaders of Britain, Turkey and Ukraine, among others.
Twenty-seven will take advantage of the first day of the informal summit of EU leaders in the Czech Republic on 6 October to formalize the launch of this new European political organization, to which the leaders of the UK, Ukraine, Turkey, Norway, Switzerland, Iceland, Georgia, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Albania, North Macedonia, Montenegro, Kosovo and Lichstenstein, a European official has reported.
Only the leaders will attend the meeting and the idea is that they can have an open debate on strategic issues of common interest to the European continent. The format consists of an opening plenary session, thematic discussions on security, energy, economy and mobility, as well as bilateral meetings and dinners to conclude the plenary.
After all, the situation in Ukraine and the energy crisis will take all the attention in a meeting where EU leaders will be able to discuss the situation with leaders such as the Turkish president, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, and the new British prime minister. , Liz Truss, in a political framework outside of NATO.
The forum was formally approved at the last EU summit in June, at the suggestion of the French president, Emmanuel Macron, and has from the outset the support of the president of the European Council, Charles Michel, who has defended that in no case the political community seeks to replace the accession policy to the EU and which will serve to advance the European path of the candidate countries.
