There is an agreement on a wage settlement between UK health workers and the authorities, which could end some of the strikes in the country’s healthcare system.
Britain recently endured its biggest strike wave since the 1980s, and Prime Minister Rishi Sunak is under intense pressure to end the labor dispute.
– Fair and reasonable
On Thursday, an association of striking health workers’ unions and the government announced that an agreement had been reached on a wage settlement.
– Both parties believe that this is a fair and reasonable settlement, said the joint announcement.
The agreement that has been made will be voted in advance, but one of the unions has recommended that its members vote in favor.
The offer now on the table contains the next payout for 2022 as well as deals for the current and next year.
Not all inclusive
However, the agreement does not apply to everyone striking in the UK healthcare system. One union, which represents about 50,000 doctors, said they were not part of the deal.
Sunak’s previous conservative administration rejected the demands of striking health workers for wage growth in line with inflation, strengthening pension rights and job security, arguing that this would only result in higher inflation.
