Carrying the motto “Together towards the future”, the British Embassy in Uruguay is present at Expo Prado with a variety of activity offers, with a focus on culture. In the pavilion you can see everything from musical performances to product tastings, as well as agrotech companies and travel information, he said. Morning British Ambassador Faye O’Connor.
What is the purpose of the British Pavilion’s participation in Expo Prado?
One of the goals is to reach people and tell them about the history of our relationship, as well as the future. Agriculture has always been part of our ties, so for us it is very important to participate in Expo Prado. Most of the cattle breeds are British, such as Angus, Hereford, and their associations are good partners of ours, so we always want to support them in these competitions. We also have a small delegation of British companies in the agrotechnology sector, which is a very important aspect of our commercial relations.
What activities will be carried out at the event?
The motto of this stand is “Together Towards the Future”. This year’s focus is related to British culture: film, music, television. We will covers British live music. We have a classic red telephone booth and the public can take photos. In addition, there is a simulation of the garden of Hatfield House, a mansion in England where series such as Bridgerton, The Crown, and films such as Sherlock Holmes, Shakespeare in Love, and The King’s Speech were filmed, and the public can go inside. take a photo. We have different gins on offer, from Falklands and Martin Miller’s, and there will be daily tastings at lunch and in the evening. There are also products from England that people can buy, for example there is the English Store, where we launched the Great Britain Festival a few days ago. At the same time, there is Frikantec which sells a lot of Harry Potter goods. And every year we have a water purifier, which I think this year will be more interesting to have this type of product. Since this is the year of King Charles III’s coronation, we have a photo gallery of the king with an audio guide for people interested in the royal family. For schools we have two documentaries, The Return of Darwin, by Marcelo Casacuberta, and another about the ship Agamemnon which sank off the coast of Maldonado.
Will participation in the Prado Expo contribute to strengthening relations between the UK and Uruguay?
Yes, completely. We will welcome a visit from British expert Phil Bicknell, director of the Center of Excellence in Livestock Innovation, who will participate in a discussion on sustainable agriculture with INIA. He will also hold meetings with various actors in the sector.
In addition, we have commercial missions from three British agrotech companies and their aim is to find partners to incorporate their products and services in Uruguay and the surrounding region. They are Dyneval, a stub Scottish high-precision technology for evaluating semen quality; LMA which offers a complete range of aerosol products to meet the needs of the livestock sector; and Butyl Products, which specializes in water storage, treatment and distribution equipment for emergency relief and camp infrastructure with supplies worldwide. At the same time, there is the Longley Heritage company, dedicated to dairy products, which has a farm in Canelones and is very well known in England.
On the other hand, there is a new mobility agreement for young people which will take effect from 2024, under which Uruguayans can go to England or British citizens to Uruguay for two years to study, work or travel. In our pavilion there is a Travelers Without Borders stand which offers many travel offers to the UK to study or travel and there is a lot of information about them.
