3.2 million passengers traveled through Avinor airport in February. That’s 45 percent more than the same month last year, but 16 percent less than in February 2019.
– It is expected that air traffic will also remain below 2019 levels for the remainder of the year, said traffic director Gaute Skallerud Riise in Avinor.
He reckons that for the year as a whole they are at 91 percent of 2019 levels, which was the year before the pandemic abruptly halted Norwegian travel.
A total of 3,269,370 passengers used Avinor airport in February. Riise said that it was mainly international traffic that brought volumes down, while domestic numbers recovered better after the pandemic.
– We expect domestic traffic to approach 2019 levels in the summer months, before dropping slightly in the fall. We also expect international traffic to increase gradually going forward, although it is expected to be well below summer traffic in the normal 2019 year, said the traffic director.
The figure shows that 2,038,645 passengers traveled within the country in February this year, 35 percent more than in February last year. The foreign figure is 1,191,693 passengers. This figure has increased by 70 percent compared to last year, when flights were still affected by the pandemic and travel restrictions.
