Airlines scheduled 5.3% more seats for this winter than 2019 at Aena airport

MADRID, 24 (EUROPEAN PRESS)

The airline has scheduled 116.8 million seats and nearly 677,000 commercial operations at airports in the Aena network for the winter season, which began on October 30 and will last until March 25, 2023.

This means 5.3% more seats than were operated in the same 2019-2020 season, before the pandemic, after the data were adjusted on a weekly basis and taking into account that the last two weeks of March 2020 were severely affected by the imposition of mobility restrictions. Without this adjustment, the increase would be 11.8%, according to airport management.

The airports offering the most seats are Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas, with over 29.7 million, and Josep Tarradellas Barcelona-El Prat, with 21.6 million. Both facilities have exceeded their winter 2019 figures by 6 and 3%, respectively.

Followed by Gran Canaria with 8.24 million beds (+24%); Málaga-Costa del Sol, with 7.47 million (+17%); Tenerife South, with 6.98 million (+36%); Palma de Mallorca, with 6.51 million (+11%); Alicante-Elche Miguel Hernández, with 5.46 million (+9%); César Manrique-Lanzarote, with 4.34 million (+39%); Valencia, with 3.88 million (+13%) and Seville, with 3.55 million scheduled seats (+8%).

The airports that incorporate more new routes for the winter are Canarias group airports, with 73. Particularly significant are the figures for César Manrique-Lanzarote Airport, with 30 more routes, and Gran Canaria Airport, with 29.

By geographic area, all markets except North America and Asia-Pacific grew, which were still 11% and 18% below 2019 levels, respectively.

Among international routes, those that offer more seats are those connecting Spain with Africa (+27%), followed by Europe and Latin America, both 10% more. Domestic flights increased 16%, reaching nearly 44 million seats.

After Spain, the countries where airlines offer more winter seats are the United Kingdom, with 14.6 million (+10%); Germany, with 9.45 million (+3%); Italy, with 6.3 million (+7%); France, with 5.9 million (+14%) and the Netherlands, with 3.8 million seats offered (+26%).

The destinations with the highest percentage growth were Poland (+58% of seats offered compared to 2019); Morocco (+45%); Romania (+34%); Ireland (+31%) and Mexico (+30%).

However, the seat and movement program is always subject to change by the airline.
