Tiktok director Shou Chew testifies today at Congress in Washington, DC. Here he will try to convince American politicians that Chinese apps are safe, after more and more people advocate banning them.
– Tiktok collects almost every type of data there is, from people’s locations to what they write and copy, biometric data and more. Tiktok is watching us all. The Chinese Communist Party is using this as a tool to manipulate the United States, said Republican Cathy McMorris, who heads the House Committee on Energy and Commerce.

McMorris is clear that he wants a TikTok ban, but isn’t satisfied with it:
– For all Americans watching today, know this: Tiktok is a spy tool of the Chinese Communist Party, which they use to manipulate what you see and exploit future generations. Banning is only a short term solution on Tiktok. We need user data action to prevent us from getting another TikTok in the US, said McMorris.
Chew emphasized that protecting user data is Tiktok’s top priority, and rejected accusations that Chinese authorities wanted to intercept American Tiktok user data.
– The authorities never asked us, and I see no evidence that this actually happened, said Chew.
150 million Americans use Tiktok, and Chew points out that the app has become an important part of American culture.
