Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian reported that the US had indicated it was “ready to make a deal” with Tehran with a view to reviving the 2015 nuclear pact, known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), for its acronym. in English).
Amir Abdollahian told the Al-Alam television channel that Washington’s message was conveyed to him through his Iraqi counterpart Fuad Hussein, who had recently returned from a trip to the US capital.
He also emphasized that the Islamic Republic always supports diplomatic solutions, reports RTenespañol.
“We have always pursued diplomacy and negotiations. We are and are not distancing ourselves from negotiations,” said Iran’s foreign minister.
Red line
In addition, he added that his country is ready to work towards a JCPOA agreement based on the results of negotiations held in Vienna (Austria), as well as contacts between Iran and the US through intermediaries in the form of “unofficial documents”.
In this regard, he stressed that any agreement of this kind must guarantee the interests of all parties, as well as respect Iran’s “red lines”.
“If the American side acts realistically within the framework of the messages it has sent and avoids repeating past hypocritical comments in the media, a deal will not be far off,” Amir Abdollahian said, noting that the problem was Washington sending “contradictory diplomatic and media messages” that did not help solve the problem.
At the same time, he reiterated that three European countries, Britain, France and Germany, should also take a constructive approach to the problem.
