The Norwegian Athletics Federation wants to organize a new E-cup for Norway – and has received permission.
When Norway became the last country to secure a place in division 1 of athletics during this year’s E-cup in Leiria, the NFIF stepped in to bring the new 2009 edition to Norway.
Now the European Athletics Federation has given the green light to Norway, and Bergen will be the host city. Belarus, Belgium, Estonia, Finland, Hungary, the Netherlands, Romania, Serbia, Slovenia, Switzerland and Turkey have both women’s and men’s teams. That was the new change when the European Team Championships were introduced.

— This will be a race for our athletes and an event where we can come together. The E-cup will be a motivation for athletes and coaches, said Secretary General Kjetil Hildeskor at the NFIF.
— This E Cup is also important for the European Athletics Federation. This will try out the new concept of women and men competing on the same team. This will create cohesion, Hildeskor believes.
E-cup athletics is divided into three divisions. The Superliga will be held in Leiria Portugal, division 1 in Norway, division 2 in Slovakia, while division 3 has not yet found an organizer.
