The PSOE itself submitted an amnesty law proposal to Congress this Monday afternoon, without any signatures from all the groups that would allegedly facilitate the coronation of Pedro Sánchez. Acting Minister of the Presidency, Félix Bolaños, has assured that the bill is correct “perfect” from a constitutional point of view and what has happened “working” with “all parliamentary groups”achieved a “broad parliamentary majority” that would put the law into action “in the coming weeks.”
“The amnesty law is in place full place in democratic countries and the law and it is in full compliance with the Constitution and our legal framework. “In fact, the Constitutional Court has ruled on several occasions that there are no limitations in the amnesty law,” Bolaños said after his party registered the proposal. The Minister has indicated that law is “useful, necessary and important” to make Spain “a better country.”
“What he meant was resolve this conflict. We want to heal wounds and resolve the political conflict in Catalonia. Our history is full of examples of laws built to unite our country. Perhaps, the first, the Amnesty Law of 1977 itself″, was pointed out by Bolaños. “As time goes by, society will realize that the amnesty law is essential for us to achieve normalized political coexistence.”
As for protest that happened in Spain in recent days, the minister assured that People who are “concerned” about the amnesty law “will feel reassured” when they read it. “You will see that this is a constitutional law that seeks to improve coexistence in our country.”
“With this law, our country will be more livableYou will have better coexistence, and therefore, people who have concerns, We tell them to look to the future with optimism, with calm”, he pointed out. This Monday, the European Union’s High Representative for Foreign Policy, Josep Borrell, said he had “quite a lot of concerns” about the PSOE and Junts amnesty pact.
“Across Europe, all amnesty laws are instruments of harmony, coexistence and dialogue […] and that’s what Catalonia needs,” said Bolaños. For this reason, he has demonstrated that in the EU amnesties “not uncommon”, even in “consolidated democracies” like America or England. “In Spain, the amnesty law aims to build harmony. “Amnesty is a parameter for building our democracy,” he explained.
