The British Foreign Minister, David Cameron, this Tuesday began a historic visit to Paraguay that marks the strengthening of relations between the two countries and the opportunity to deepen bilateral cooperation and trade.
“This is the first time a British chancellor has visited Paraguay, after 160 years of relations, it is a great honor for the chancellor to be here,” Cameron said, after meeting with President Santiago Peña and members of his cabinet. , at the Government Palace, in what he described as a “wonderful conversation” with the president.
“There are many coincidences between the UK and Paraguay,” he said while assessing Paraguay’s position regarding the Russian invasion of Ukraine, the conflict between Israel and Palestine and other situations in the context of global geopolitics.
Regarding relations with Paraguay, the British Minister assured that there are many opportunities for cooperation in the future, especially on environmental and sustainability issues.
The national chancellor, Rubén Ramírez, highlighted the presence of British investment in green hydrogen projects, as well as Paraguay’s contribution to the generation and export of clean and renewable energy.
The trade balance between Paraguay and the UK is exports of USD 120 million and imports of USD 65 million, said Foreign Minister Ramírez. Both authorities expressed their interest in deepening trade ties and increasing bilateral trade.
