Britain does not depend on Russia for gas, but has been hit hard by rising prices

According to the latest data, next year will import 9-10 billion cubic of liquefied gas

Britain agreed to double US gas imports over the next year while trying to stabilize rising energy prices. Prime Minister Rishi Sunak stated that the plan would “lower prices for British consumers and help end Europe’s dependence on Russian energy.”

Russia cut most of its gas supplies to Europe over the past year following its invasion of Ukraine. The UK does not import gas from Russia directly, but has been affected by rising wholesale prices on the continent. Under the deal, Britain aims to double its US imports of liquefied natural gas (LNG) to 9-10 billion cubic meters over the next year.

This volume is equivalent to one-eighth of the gas that the UK uses every year. The two countries will also promote collaboration in the development of new nuclear technologies and green energy.
