Britain warns of historic disinformation campaign in Russia

The UK Ministry of Defense has warned about a new disinformation tactics orchestrated by Russia through the State Archives Agency. In this operation, the collection is published 242 documents ranging from the 11th to the 20th centuriespresented as a historical overview union between Russia and Ukraine. The selection begins with articles by Russian President Vladimir Putin from July 2021 and his February 21, 2022 speech on the situation in Ukrainebefore the next invasion.

The aim of this initiative is supports current Kremlin policyarguing that foreign subversion had turned Ukraine into a “anti-Russian”, according to the British Intelligence Service. Putin has added interpretive commentary to these documents, including a recent article by former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev, which appears to discuss history Russian-Polish Relations. In it, Poland was accused of a aggressive “Russophobic” revisionist policies.

The disclosure of this historical collection seeks to justify Russia’s actions in Ukraine and strengthen the Kremlin’s narrative.
