Zacatecas, Zac., November 9, 2023.- In recognition of Zacatecas for its leadership in environmental issues, the Government led by David Monreal Ávila received from the Mexico-UK PACT Program (Partnering to Accelerate the Climate Transition) and the Environmental Policy and Legislation organization (POLEA), the Climate Change legislation for State of Zacatecas and Municipality, a legal instrument that sets concrete goals to face the global climate crisis.
This Thursday, after meeting with the president of Zacatecas, within the framework of bilateral relations between the Mexican and British Governments, discussing the joint agenda, the country’s Ambassador, Jon Benjamin, attended the handover as an honorary witness. the regulations, which are the result of collaboration between the Environmental Policy and Legislation Association (POLEA), the Mexico-England PACT program, and state governments.
On behalf of the state presidents, the Secretaries of Water and Environment and Economy, Susana Rodríguez Márquez and Rodrigo Castañeda Miranda, respectively, accepted the document that allows better implementation as it establishes inspections, supervision, monitoring and other measures with international standards. .
From the Centenario Ecopark, the Ambassador appreciated Zacatecas for its cooperation and commitment in implementing regulations that are the result of collaboration between Mexico, this state and the United Kingdom to combat climate change.
In front of legislators, leaders of business organizations, social organizations and academics, the diplomat explained that Mexico is currently receiving technical assistance from several climate change programs funded by the UK and UK PACT in collaboration with Zacatecas is one of them.
Therefore, he acknowledged the results obtained that were realized by legislation and today reinforced by the issuance of a regulation that makes Zacatecas have state-of-the-art legislation and that characterizes this state as an exemplary leader in environmental matters, especially for its commitment to achieving the goals clean. 0 emissions by 2050.
It was a pleasure to be present at the presentation of the results because this law will encourage a low-carbon economy, encourage poverty alleviation and environmentally friendly and impactful economic development, added Ambassador Benjamin.
After receiving the regulation on behalf of the Governor, the Head of the Ministry of Water and Environment emphasized that, thanks to the President’s commitment, this country has laid a solid foundation for the transformation of environmental culture.
He emphasized that the law is not intended to be punitive, but rather to harmonize all sectors so that they live healthier, in harmony with the environment, and are able to provide feedback to the ecosystem.
The Coordinating Minister for the Economy emphasized that the Governor’s vision is to build the desired Zacatecas with actions that care for the environment.
Finally, Andrés Ávila, director of POLEA, emphasized that the legal framework is a big step because it requires urgent, fair and effective action, hence the need for alliances with all kinds of authors and political commitment, which is why Zacatecas recognizes that being a country that has shown a lot of leadership in implementing the Climate Change Law and its regulations.
