MADRID, April 8. (EUROPEAN PRESS) –
British military intelligence believes that Ukraine’s energy grid has withstood Russia’s attacks on supplies over the past winter and has offered good prospects for the coming months as warmer temperatures arrive.
“Russia’s campaign to degrade Ukraine’s energy grid over the winter has failed,” as understood “with a high degree of probability” by the UK Ministry of Defence.
London argued that large-scale Russian attacks on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure that began in October last year “have become more sporadic since early March.”
“Small scale attacks, with less than 25 rounds used, are continuing, but are likely to have a much smaller impact on networks,” British Military Intelligence added in its latest assessment of the conflict, published this Saturday on its Twitter account.
The UK has verified that the Ukrainian energy operator continues to provide “replacement transformers” to the affected infrastructure, as well as “other critical components” despite the “enormous logistical challenges” it represents as part of it, in the case of high voltage transformers, weighs more of 100 tonnes.
The Ministry of Defense emphasized that “the energy situation in Ukraine may improve with the arrival of warmer temperatures” and understood that “preparations for the coming winter can already begin.”
