The new British Foreign Secretary, David Cameron, made his first official visit to the Ukrainian capital, Kiev, where he met with the Ukrainian president, Volodymyr Zelensky, this Thursday.
Zelensky himself had published a message on his account on the social network X, formerly known as Twitter, announcing that he had received Cameron “on his first visit to Ukraine as British Foreign Secretary.”
“We had a good meeting, focused on frontline weapons, strengthening anti-aircraft defenses and protecting our people and critical infrastructure. “I thank England for its support,” he stressed.
Meanwhile, Cameron has reiterated London’s support for Kiev in the context of Russia’s invasion, launched in February 2022, and has pledged to maintain “moral, diplomatic and economic support, but most importantly, military support.” , as reported by the British television network BBC.
The former British Prime Minister took over as Foreign Secretary on Monday, in the context of a shake-up of the Government which saw the incumbent, James Cleverly, become Head of Home Affairs due to the sacking of Suella Braverman following her recent controversy.
Cameron, who stepped down as prime minister seven years ago as a result of the Brexit referendum, highlighted after his appointment that he believed in leveraging his political “experience” to lead British diplomacy in a period of “profound global change.”
