Charles III was crowned king of England this Saturday in a ceremony at Westminster Abbey, in London, that followed an ancestral rite, in which he swore to defend the laws of the church.
The Archbishop of Canterbury placed, at 12:03, on King Charles III’s head the crown of Saint Edward, the most important jewel of the British monarchy, made of pure gold, set with rubies, amethysts and sapphires, and which is traditionally worn in a double crown king since 1661.
The former Archbishop of Canterbury, Charles III swore to honor and defend the Anglican Church during his reign, and promised to respect all the religions of all the nations that make up the British Commonwealth.
Nearly 2,000 guests will attend the ceremony at Westminster Abbey, including the Prince of Wales, William and ‘Kate’ Middleton, who is now heir to the crown.
