Crisis in London: Sunak tries to appease Brexit defenders, opposed to approaching Europe
In the United Kingdom, Prime Minister Rishi Sunak is under pressure after opening the door to seek closer ties with the European Union and mitigate some of the negative effects of Brexit, leaving the European Union, but at the same time, Downing Street’s new squatters are trying to appease the angry Brexit supporter in his own party.
From the latter, the British Prime Minister has received a letter, sent by a broad alliance of British business, legal, labor and environmental groups asking him to abandon his controversial plans to automatically scrap certain laws stemming from agreements to leave Europe, to end next year. They claim that it will only cause confusion and annoyance. The significant disruption they guarantee will affect companies, workers, consumers and conservationists.
According to the FT, in a letter sent this Wednesday to commercial secretary Grant Shapps, the signatory group had warned that the breakdown of the legislative framework would plunge companies into new uncertainties as they battle rising energy bills and inflation. However, the letter is the latest sign that businesses are taking a more robust approach to continued disruption from Brexit.
