Director of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights in New York resigns over Palestinian “genocide” in Gaza

MADRID, October 31 (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Director of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights in New York, Craig Mokhiber, has resigned over the lack of action by UN agencies to prevent the “genocide” of the Palestinian population of the Gaza Strip at the hands of Israel.

Mokhiber has confirmed to Europa Press that he has sent a letter to the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Volker Turk, in which he denounced that “we are seeing genocide before our eyes” and that UN organizations “do not seem to have the right to commit genocide .” the power to stop it.”

Therefore, he explains that in every case of genocide he has dealt with, such as the Bosnian, Yazidi or Rohingya genocides, the UN “has failed in its mission to prevent mass atrocities, protect vulnerable populations and hold them accountable. ” account”.

“As a human rights lawyer with more than three decades of experience, I know very well that the concept of genocide has been abused at the political level, but the current massacre of the Palestinian people (…) leaves no room for doubt”, he has pointed out.

In this regard, he pointed out that Israel has carried out air strikes in Gaza against schools, churches, mosques, medical institutions and civilian facilities, while he also condemned ‘pogroms’ against the Palestinian population in the West Bank.

Mokhiber criticized the governments of the United States, Britain and European countries for being “complicit” and warned that many were “arming” Israel with economic aid, while others provided diplomatic and political assistance.
