Abba guitarist Lasse Wellander has died
Swedish musician and guitarist Abba Lasse Wellander has died aged 70. This was stated by his family on Wellander’s Facebook page.
– It is with indescribable sadness that we must announce that our beloved Lasse has fallen asleep, they wrote.
According to the family, he had recently fallen ill – it turned out to be cancer that had spread – and at the start of Good Friday he passed away with his nearest and dearest around him.
– You are a wonderful musician and humble like few, but above all you are a great man, father, brother, uncle and grandfather, they wrote further.
The family describes him as kind, safe, caring and loving.
– And much more that cannot be explained in words. A center in our lives, and inconceivable that we must now live without you.
Wellander was a guitarist in the popular and world famous Swedish pop group Abba for a long time.
He played with the group both in studio and on several tours in the 1970s and after, wrote Swedish Aftonbladet.
He has also been seen and heard with other big Swedish names, including Peps Persson’s Blues group Quality and Björn Skifs’ group Zkiffz, the newspaper said.
He also joined the dance band Vikingarna during their farewell tour in 2004.
