Within the framework of the transition to decarbonization promoted by the National Government, through the Ministry of Environment, Water and Ecological Transition, a workshop was held to exchange experiences between the UK and Ecuador. There, progress in managing climate change and the UK’s experience in implementing the Carbon Neutrality Strategy (Net Zero Strategy) were shared, including the vision of the Climate Change Act and the role of its Climate Change Committee.

During the workshop, common points with the Ecuadorian model were identified, as well as opportunities for collaboration in the process of formulating and implementing the National Plan for Transition to Decarbonization. Within this framework, Karina Barrera, Under-Secretary for Climate Change, indicated that the workshop would provide a broader perspective on what is being done with respect to decarbonization and share experiences and challenges faced in the new paths that the country has taken. .

Meanwhile, the UK ambassador, Chris Campbell, highlighted that “both technical teams work together every day and we are here to learn from you and share experiences to achieve common paths going forward.” The event was attended by renowned specialists in their field, including Emma Owens, Head of the Department of Energy Security and Carbon Neutrality and Rose Armitage, Senior Analyst at the UK Committee on Climate Change.

As part of this important experience exchange process, on 27 and 28 March, more than 50 public and private sector representatives involved in the drafting of the Plan attended capacity building on issues of a just transition, green job creation and other issues. related to economics for climate policy.
