Erlend Bore was called after the discovery of gold this century

The discovery of a gold treasure from the 6th century – made by Sola men with a metal detector this summer – is now hot news in media around the world.

– This is a bit unreasonable. But it was great fun, to that extent, said protagonist Erlend Bore (51) when Dagbladet called on Sunday morning – three days after the news became known.

– How big is this case internationally?

– It seems like this disease is spreading everywhere, Bore said.

British media can be mentioned among the major media that covered this case GuardianGerman Pictureand Thailand Bangkok Post.

– Gold discovery of the century in Norway, confirmed by the Archaeological Museum at Stavanger University pers conference Thursday.

– Finding so much gold at the same time is very unusual, said museum director Ole Madsen.

On the same day, Erlend Bore was interviewed on an American TV channel NBC.

Since then, he has spoken to media in Canada and Britain, and on Tuesday he had a deal with a radio station in Albania. On Thursday, he’ll talk to American News Max – and more.

– Friends and acquaintances all over the world suddenly saw me, in France, the Netherlands, Australia and everywhere else, Bore told Dagbladet.

In addition to the people he spoke to personally, many media outlets around the world referred to what other people wrote.

– It’s not like everyone calls me. The Bangkok Post, for example, only handled one case without calling me, he said.

– Must be submitted

Many individuals also contact us, mainly via various apps, for tips, for example about metal detectors.

Bore then explained the laws and regulations for these things. In Norway, two years are important: for coins, the year is 1650, for other objects 1537.

– Previously it belonged to the state and had to be handed over, he explained.

Another important thing is permission from the landowner, and such valuable finds should be handled as little as possible, and left to archaeologists.

– One of the things I was praised for was that I did not continue the excavation after the first signal, but let the archaeologists take over.

Bore doesn’t see the new hobby as a quick way to get rich, even though he will probably be paid like a breadwinner.

– It looks like this could be something in the long term, he said.

Feeling

Bore found the treasure in Rennesøy near Stavanger this summer, not long after he started searching for it with a metal detector.

He got the idea when his doctor advised him to walk more often.

– In Australia and other countries, the media wrote a lot about the fact that doctors said I should get out and walk. “It’s definitely an interesting thing,” Bore said.

Otherwise, his feelings about the discovery itself were widely discussed, both in the Norwegian and foreign media.

– Have you changed since becoming famous?

– In my job, I am used to organizing things, and not panicking, so it turns out everything goes well, says Erlend Bore, head of food safety at Nortura daily.
