Family legacy ends in handball

Much of the family legacy from Trøndelag has been passed on to children’s and youth sports and volunteer work at Elverum.

– NOK 222,000 is the largest gift we have ever received from an individual, says the administrative manager of Elverum’s Youth Handball Department, Jonny Børresen.

In addition, the Ungdommens Hus in Elverum has received NOK 25,000 from the inheritance of the same family.

Would retired handball teacher and fan Jon Refseth (69) disinherit his own family to enjoy Elverum’s Champions League glory against giants like Barcelona and Kiel?

No, enough of an answer to that kind of satire.

First: Elverum Handball’s extensive investment has not received the inheritance of the whole family.

The four grown children have had their share. Dan Refseth and his wife owe less for their own share of a family inheritance than the retired teacher himself has described as “normal”.

But a six-figure number for a grassroots sport, then, at the expense of, say, getting closer to your own debt-free self?

Family: – Great idea

– I brought up the idea in advance with our wife and children. Everyone thought it was a great idea to share the legacy with handball and all the volunteerism around it, with which we ourselves had a good experience growing up, Refseth told Dagbladet.
