Football, National Top League | Jakob Ingebrigtsen made it to the EC finals with third place

The top three in each round advance directly to the final, while the last three places are also awarded on time in the three heats. Ingebrigtsen ran in the first half.

– It was a simple race. I want to save as much energy as possible, says Ingebrigtsen, according to the European Athletics Federation website.

– It’s slow, and I contributed to that.

Good margins

Azeddine Habz of France won the heat with a time of 3.49.88, ahead of George Mills of England with 3.50.01. Ingebrigtsen trailed nearly seven-tenths of Italy’s Federico Riva behind.

Pietro Arese from Italy won heat 2 at 3.43.97. There, Ferdinand Kvan Edman of Norway is seventh with 3.44.44.

The third round was the fastest, and from there six people made it to the final. Neil Gourley of Great Britain won his heat at 3.41.08, less than half a second into sixth place.

My condolences to the earthquake victims

Ingebrigtsen is the reigning champion in the 1500 and 3000 metres, and he is seeking to defend his title in Istanbul, where the European Indoor Championships are being held this weekend.

The championships were held as planned despite an earthquake which hit Turkey less than a month ago.

– We all feel the Turkish people as a result of what happened. We are also grateful to be able to come here and participate in EC. Sport is good to do in difficult times, and I hope we can make a positive contribution, said Ingebrigtsen.
