MADRID, 10 Sept. (EUROPA PRESS) –
Germany, France and Britain released a joint statement on Saturday expressing “serious doubts” about Iran’s intention to reach a nuclear deal after 18 months of negotiations.
“Given that Iran has not yet reached an agreement on the table, we will consult with our international partners on the best way to deal with Iran’s continuing nuclear escalation,” they said.
In particular, they questioned “the new changes that put us at the limit of our flexibility” with regard to Tehran’s partial compliance with the 2015 Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (PIAC).
“Unfortunately, Iran chose not to take advantage of this critical diplomatic opportunity. On the contrary, Iran continues to scale up its nuclear program far beyond what can be justified for civilian purposes,” the statement said.
In response, Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesman, Nasser Kanaani, criticized the “lack of constructive spirit” in this joint document, which he considered “the opposite of a gesture of goodwill.”
On the other hand, Kanaani has proposed that these countries “play a more active role” in resolving the remaining fringes to achieve the sane “rather than destroying the diplomatic trend.”
As such, he has compared this position to the position of the “Zionist regime” in Israel to “crush negotiations” and has warned of “the consequences.”
