Generali has approved the appointment of Carlos Escudero as the new CEO for Spain, replacing Santiago Villa who continues as International Regional Officer Mediterranean & Latin America, a position he has held since September 2022.
Carlos Escudero will join Generali from Banco Santander, where he was in charge of the insurance business for Europe. Escudero has been dedicated to the insurance sector for over 10 years and has extensive international experience.
The new CEO will be responsible for the growth of the Spanish subsidiary, which recently completed the acquisition of the Liberty Seguros business. Managers will focus on profitable growth, sustainability, digital transformation and excellence.
Santiago Villa, from his current position as Mediterranean & Latin America International Regional Officer, will lead the integration of Liberty Seguros within the European perimeter, a strategic operation for Grupo Generali and which in Spain allowed us to reach fourth place in the insurance entity ranking.
Generali bought all of Liberty’s European businesses. Although its main subsidiary is Spain, it also has a presence in Portugal, Ireland and the United Kingdom. It has agreed to pay 2,300 million euros for all of these businesses.
Villa, who until recently also served as CEO in Spain, now oversees the Italian group’s businesses in Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Ecuador, Greece, Portugal and Turkey.
