Inter with a surprising opening against Milan – tightened their grip on the final
Two quick veteran goals sealed Inter’s lead in the Champions League semi-finals. A hard drive before half-time saw Milan 2-0 down in Wednesday’s derby clash.
It was the first time in history that Inter had won against city rivals Milan in the Champions League
Milan were completely shaken by Inter’s two swift attacks and trailed 0-2 after eleven minutes. First, Edin Dzeko (37) got hit hard in the box after a corner, while Henrikh Mkhitaryan (34) came from deep and completed the perfect counter-attack.
– It feels really good, especially since it’s a derby. On paper we play away, so it’s a fantastic result for us,” Dzeko told BT Sport.
Milan looked better after the break, but it wasn’t enough. The closest was Sandro Tonali when he hit the post after just over an hour.
– It’s only the first match. We can’t hang our heads. We are disappointed, but we can’t think about it,” Milan defender Fikayo Tomori told BT Sport.
The return match will be played at the same arena on May 16. Then it was Inter who played as the home team and were supported by their own fans.
The final will be played in Istanbul on June 10, and the opponents will be either Manchester City or Real Madrid. (NTB)
