– He has a good bed

  • Newcastle – Manchester City 3-3 (2-1)

NEWCASTLE (Dagbladet): It was a wild match in St. James’ Park on a Sunday night. Newcastle led 3-1 in the 54th minute and everything looked dark for the visitors.

But then City managed to equalize the advantage. It happened after Haaland’s two miraculous situations.

First he was reduced to 2-3. He then caught the eye when Kevin De Bruyne came from outside the box and found Bernardo Silva in the gap for the 3-3 scoreline.

At the press conference afterwards, Newcastle coach Eddie Howe had many superlatives:

– He’s an amazing player. He has an excellent balance between physique, mobility and agility. The goal seems simple, but it is not simple. He is a finisher who has all the instinct you need to score goals in the league.

Once again, Haaland played the entire game for City. At Borussia Dortmund, he hasn’t played the full 90 minutes in the last four or five months. Life is marked by injury.

– What have you done with him? Dagbladet wanted to know at the press conference.

– Good food and good rest. People say that the apartment he bought has a good bed, said manager Pep Guardiola with a twinkle in his eye.

– The physiotherapists and doctors have done a great job.

It still warns of actions when the hard drive starts:

– Now we only play one game a week. I can already say that: when we are going to play every third day, he is not going to play every game. I will use Julián lvarez, Guardiola told Dagbladet.

– One of my favorite players is Bernardo Silva and he hasn’t played until today. Riyad Mahrez is by far one of my favorite players – especially on the big stage – and he didn’t play today. When we start with a game every third day, everyone can play.

Previously, there had been high expectations for the Norwegian ahead of the win at St. James’ Park. Two goals and an assist in two games are strong statistics, although he only made eight touches against Bournemouth last weekend.

Haaland remained anonymous at first. But he is not alone. Apart from the first quarter, some of City’s players seemed to be running out of energy.

Ilkay Gündogan sent the visitors ahead after five minutes.

Encouraged by the home crowd, the Newcastle players boomed with effort and heartfelt attitude.

Then things unraveled for City for a long time. Miguel Almirón and Callum Wilson made it 2-1 after 45 minutes.

On the touchline, Pep Guardiola paced restlessly, contemplating what to do, but nothing happened when both teams came out again.

Haaland had his first big chance five minutes into the second half. Some brilliant maneuvers up front resulted in a shot, which ended over the goalkeeper and into the post.

Then something seems to have happened.

But not then.

Instead, Kieran Trippier waited with a delicious free-kick that put Newcastle 3-1 up. Back then it was brutal to be a City supporter.

But City are not champions without reason. And Haaland will get his chance. After an hour, he reduced it to 2-3, where he found space right in front of goal.

And it doesn’t stop there:

Kevin De Bruyne found Bernardo Silva, who leveled it at 3-3. Haaland ran to De Bruyne, but it was Silva who got the ball.

A perfect illustration that Haaland’s contribution to the team goes beyond just scoring goals.

Part of the story is that Trippier received a red card when he fouled De Bruyne, but he was saved by VAR.

In front of Viaplay, Guardiola summed up the match as follows:

– It was open, more so than the Bournemouth game. I’m very happy with the way we played offensively.

Teammates bragged about Haaland’s start:

– I recognized myself since I came to the club. All new. He is very young, but he picks it up very quickly. “What he brings to the team with speed and power is great, and he’s still learning,” John Stones told Viaplay.
