The “Horizonte” project has been launched in the EMT space in global Public Transport Summit, the congress organized by the International Public Transport Union (UITP) and held in Barcelona brought together the main international public transport agencies.
As detailed in the tender documents, this project will culminate in the production of a full-scale prototype “Horizon” in 2024with the intention of “promote the appeal of public transportation and redesign the customer experience”. The prototype, as explained by the Madrid City Council, will be installed in symbolic places in the city with the aim of gathering comments and opinions of citizens and, in this way, combining functionality and design ideas for future bus tenders .
According to collect World“Horizonte” proposed a bus with a rounded and aerodynamic shape and 100% electric. It will be loaded using an inverted pantograph, an automated process that allows vehicles to be loaded without operator intervention or driver waiting time. Currently, EMT has about fifty systems of this type in the Carabanchel Operations Center.
The bus will be made in sustainable materials and ocher colors, which will provide a warm interior environment. will have capacity for 70 people and with panoramic glass roof to create a feeling of airiness and lightness. Beyond that will have signal bands the route to be taken, as well as the single and wide access doors for passengers in the middle of the vehicle, are designed to provide high fluidity. In addition, initially “Horizonte” was designed to put the driver behind the wheel, taking into account the possibility of autonomous piloting in the future.
“At this important moment of technological innovation, city companies realized that the customer experience in city buses must also be redesigned so that the buses become a benchmark for attractiveness and innovation in the sector and among citizens and, in this way, promote sustainable urban mobility.”, they pointed from City Hall.
“Horizonte” is a proposal from the creative agency Héctor Serrano Studio, whose work team is formed by product designers Héctor Serrano, Joaquín García, Enrique Miñarro and Javier Esteban. From the company they emphasized that their ‘Welcome back’ project won second prize in a residency competition for an emblematic double-decker bus for a London transport company.
