Hurtigruten’s ship “Richard With” ran aground in Steinsundet at the end of the Sognefjord on Friday. The cause was a technical system error that caused the ship to veer off course. Express route ships are now land-free.
Hurtigruten’s ship as a base support has now loosened itself up, report TV2.
– The cause was a technical system error that caused the ship to temporarily lose control. Hurtigruten Norway is in the process of investigating the background of the error, Hurtigruten said in a statement update at 2:34pm.
There were a total of 67 people in it. The ship was not operating normally, and therefore there were no passengers on board.
– This was of course an incident we wanted to avoid, but luckily there was only minor damage to the ship. There is never a danger to life and health, says press contact Martin Henriksen at Hurtigruten Norway.
The ship suffered minor damage to the bulb and forward ballast tanks.
The ship was en route from Hareid to Bergen after an extended stay at Myklebust Verft in Gursken when the incident occurred. In recent days, the ship has carried out a test cruise at Sunnmøre.
This ship has a length of 122 meters and a width of 23 meters. It was built in 1993.
The main rescue center coordinated actions when it became clear that the ship had run aground. All emergency services were dispatched to the scene apart from Coast Guard vessels and tugboats.
No leaks of environmentally hazardous materials from the ship were detected, according to Hurtigruten.
Hurtigruten is now working on alternatives to ship repair. They assumed that the ship could return as scheduled from 20 August.
