The motive? Possible violation of UK data protection laws by TikTok by failing to protect children’s privacy when using the video sharing platform.
The Information Commission’s office issued TikTok with legal documents before a possible fine, as well as two investigations.
It notes that in the first investigation, TikTok may have processed the data of children under the age of 13, without proper parental consent.
And because of this, “special category data” is processed without a legal basis for doing so.
The second investigation will focus on TikTok’s transfer of personal data to China and whether the company complies with European Union data laws in transferring its personal data to countries outside the community bloc.
Owned by China’s ByteDance, TikTok has grown rapidly all over the world, especially among teenagers.

A fact that caught the attention of European regulators, who considered the processing of children’s personal data and the transfer of personal data to China a violation of privacy.
Hence, the UK government is pushing for online safety legislation. The alternative above requires technology companies to protect children from content deemed harmful.
