New Delhi, India, July 25. India and the UK have launched a new security initiative to boost economic growth and enhance their bilateral collaboration, it was announced on the first official visit of the new UK Foreign Secretary to India.
Under the agreement, the two countries will work together on key technology areas ranging from critical minerals and Artificial Intelligence (AI) to semiconductors and telecommunications. They will also strengthen cooperation on issues such as climate, trade, technology and education, said a statement issued by the office of British Foreign Secretary David Lammy.
“This will involve real action as we address the challenges of the future, from AI to critical minerals. Together we can unlock shared growth, drive innovation, jobs and investment,” Lammy said.
In talks with his counterpart, Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, the two also agreed to enhance security and defense cooperation in the Indo-Pacific, and discussed global issues such as the Russia-Ukraine conflict, according to a statement from the Indian Ministry of External Affairs.
Lammy said his trip to India reflected one of the government’s new foreign policy priorities: climate change in Europe, climate and the Global South.
