Inside an abandoned mental hospital, frozen in time | United Kingdom | News

An abandoned mental hospital, renowned for its harsh regime, still stands on the outskirts of Leeds, West Yorkshire.

But the former mental hospital, unused since the 1990s, has fallen into disrepair over the years, as seen by strange photos of its interior.

Images taken inside Meanwood Park Hospital showed graffiti on walls, peeling paint and debris and dirt strewn across the floor.

The cupboard looks abandoned and empty, with fragments of the ceiling and plaster on top and around it.

Dead wild animals can also be seen lying around, adding to the eerie feel of the abandoned building.

Not surprisingly, after being abandoned for more than two decades, this scary hospital is now a paradise for ghost hunters.

Supernatural fans’ interest in Meanwood Park Hospital began several years ago, when some staff and inmates allegedly saw a “gray lady” haunting the halls while it was still open.

The hospital, known as “The Mansion”, sits on 178 acres and began admitting patients 105 years ago.

The first patient at the hospital, which was developed as a “colony for the mentally retarded”, was a 10-year-old boy, Frank Tottie.

Barnet arrived at the hospital in August 1919, after the Leeds Corporation had rented and then purchased the building.

Frank lived there for the rest of his life, until his death in November 1979.

This “big house” originally accommodated about 90 patients, but has grown over the years to accommodate more than 800 people.

Local authorities were initially responsible for its maintenance before the NHS took over the hospital in 1948. The hospital finally closed in the late 1990s.
