He The National Government participates -yesterday- the general debate on decolonization within the framework of the Fourth Committee of the United Nations General Assembly, to ratify before the UN the request to resume negotiations between Argentina and the United Kingdom with the aim of discussing the sovereignty of the Malvinas Islands .

During a meeting held in New York, the secretary of Malvinas, Antarctica and South Atlantic, Guillermo CarmonaStates that “we are here to demand justice before the international community” oppose “Britain’s flagrant and permanent violation of international law without regard for the mandate of the international community”.

“In the fourth Committee of the UN General Assembly discussing the decolonization process, we stated our firm position regarding sovereignty over the Malvinas, South Georgia, South Sandwich and related maritime spaces and islands,” he added.

Carmona also presented arguments in favor of Argentina’s position and referred to the proposal made by Foreign Minister Santiago Cafiero, to his British counterpart in March 2023, for the opening of a formal negotiation process in accordance with the General Assembly resolution.

Besides that, warned about unilateral actions taken by the UK regarding the exploration and exploitation of renewable and non-renewable natural resourcesalong with his disproportionate military presence in the South Atlantic, and urge the British Government to end unilateral actions in the disputed territory.

For his part and present at the Assembly together with Carmona, national representative of Tierra del Fuego Rosana Berton stated that “Argentina defends its legitimate claims in an irrevocable and irreversible manner in the face of this forum and other examples of international cooperation.”

“The Malvinas Question is a special case of decolonization that underlies the sovereignty dispute between Argentina and England, and the way to resolve it is through negotiations between the two parties involved in the controversy,” he said.

“Accompanying the Argentine Delegation in this presentation as a State Deputy is to provide representation to the Fuegian people in this international discussion, legitimizing and strengthening our claim to sovereignty.“In every international agency and organization, we will continue to emphasize that the Malvina family is Argentinian and Fuegian,” Bertone emphasized.
