The man charged with murder in the municipality of Ørland
A man in his 60s has been accused of killing his own wife in the municipality of Ørland in Trøndelag, police report.
The woman in her 70s was found by the man at a residential address in Ørland on Thursday 29 June, according to police. The next day, the police were notified by the health department, because of the circumstances surrounding the death.
Police said they opened an investigation and decided on an autopsy.
– The results of the preliminary autopsy report have led us to decide to charge the man with intentionally killing his wife. For now, we don’t want to go into more specific details, for the sake of the investigation, said prosecutor Ole Andreas Aftret in the Trøndelag police district in a press release.
The man was arrested on July 4.
In addition to the autopsy, a forensic search and examination was carried out, and several electronic devices were confiscated and examined. Several interviews have already been conducted, and more will be conducted in the future.
According to police, the accused man did not admit criminal guilt during questioning.
– This is a matter that we take very seriously. Although the preliminary autopsy report strengthens the homicide hypothesis, we are still investigating the case based on several theories as to what caused the death. “Hopefully further investigation will provide us with more answers,” said Aftret in a press release.
TV 2 has contacted the victim’s attorney, Vibeke Meland.
– I represent two survivors and have been in contact with them. “Incidentally, I have no comment at this time,” Meland said.
