As McLaren celebrates its 60th anniversary, the supercar maker has teamed up with the LEGO Group to launch the first ever LEGO Speed Champions double pack featuring two of McLaren’s most iconic supercars: the McLaren F1 LM and McLaren Solus GT.
Both LEGO creations pay homage to McLaren’s technical innovation and design language with authentic details for the real-life car, including the Papaya Orange color of the F1 LM, center position of the driver’s seat and cooling ducts.
Born from the concept of a virtual gaming world, the Solus GT, also with its striking single-seat center cockpit design and high-drag rear wing, is the perfect addition for any McLaren supercar fan.
The 581-piece set also features two LEGO minifigure drivers in their McLaren ‘race suit’.
Sixty years ago, New Zealand-born racer, engineer and visionary Bruce McLaren created a racing team in England that remains one of the most successful names in the world in motorsport. McLaren is the only team to have won the ‘Triple Crown of Motorsport’ with race wins at the Monaco Grand Prix, Indianapolis 500 and Le Mans 24 Hours. In the 1960s, Bruce himself introduced the M6GT, McLaren’s first supercar.
The LEGO and McLaren groups first merged in 2015, and since then have created six LEGO Speed Champions McLaren cars and two LEGO Technic McLaren models. To celebrate McLaren’s 60th milestone and the co-launch of the first double pack, designers from the LEGO Group and McLaren recently met at LEGO Headquarters in Billund, Denmark.
“As 2023 marks the 60th anniversary of McLaren and our founder’s passion for creating the best supercars, we felt this was the perfect opportunity to partner with the LEGO Group and celebrate some of the iconic McLaren road cars whose designs were born from that vision.
“Together with LEGO SpeedChampions, we have created our first McLaren dual-pack featuring the iconic McLaren F1 LM and our newest track-focused hypercar, the Solus GT, which will only be selling 25 to customers and which was originally built as a video. concept car game.
“No matter how old you are, you can have fun building and exploring cars, and through that, I hope we can inspire future designers and engineers to help us look 60 years into the future and beyond.”
Goran Ozbolt, Chief Designer, McLaren Automotive
“Our goal is to inspire LEGO vehicle fans of all ages with new and unique building experiences each time we expand the Speed Champions Collection. This launch is another great example of this longstanding partnership.”
Christopher Leslie Stamp, Design Manager, LEGO Group
The new LEGO Speed Champions McLaren Solus GT and McLaren F1 LM sets will be available worldwide from March 1, 2023.
