– Today we can say that the long-standing national lockdown is coming to an end, Johnson said as he delivered the UK’s biggest ever easing of coronavirus restrictions on Tuesday.
He also announced that new measures could be implemented if there is a new wave of infections.
The opening of restaurants and pubs applies to indoor and outdoor dining, but requires them to follow guidelines that include requirements for table service.
– People should maintain two metres distance where possible. But if that is not possible, we would advise people to maintain more than one metre distance, Johnson said.
Hotels, guesthouses, campsites and hairdressers are also allowed to open, the BBC writes.
The same goes for playgrounds, museums, galleries, amusement parks, outdoor fitness centers, libraries, and community centers.
Nightclubs, spa facilities, bowling alleys, water parks, nail salons and swimming pools, on the other hand, are not allowed to open on July 4.
It has long been known that the UK has a record number of infections and deaths. Last week, the ONS statistics agency said the total number of coronavirus-related deaths was almost 52,000 by June 5. More than 305,000 infections have been registered.
