Meta presents Duet Display, an app to use Portal as a second screen

Meta Platforms has introduced an application called Duet Display, which lets you use the Portal touch panel as a second screen for your Mac or PC computer.

The Portal series debuted in 2018, with two smart screens designed to encourage users to communicate via video and audio with Facebook and Messenger contacts.

Although the company initially assured that the device could safeguard users’ privacy, as well as protect their information, the Cambridge Analytica scandal called into question this functionality.

This causes many users to choose other electronic equipment to make video calls instead of Portal, which may affect their sales rate. Because of this, the company announced in June that it would change its business strategy to allocate these screens to the business environment, not to individuals.

However, Meta recently announced the fate of this device, which will have new uses thanks to Duet Display, an app that allows you to turn Meta Portal Plus (2nd Generation) and Meta Portal Go into second screens for Mac or PC.

The app is already available in the app stores of both operating systems, the App Store and Google Play respectively, and must be downloaded both on the device itself and on the computer that will be used as the home screen.

Once installed on both computers, users will be able to drag open windows from the Mac or MC onto the Meta Portal device, just as they would with the second computer screen.

Meta has shown that the app is now available for free in the US, Canada, UK, France, Spain, Italy, Australia and New Zealand for Meta Portal Plus 2nd Generation.

On the other hand, for another device, Meta Portal Go, Duet Display service can only be downloaded in the United States, Canada, United Kingdom, France, Spain and Italy.

In addition to Duet Display, Apple has introduced Meta Portal Companion for macOS, which offers the ability to connect Apple-made computers to Meta Portal devices.

This service, which is already available and free in the United States and United Kingdom, focuses on hybrid work environments and focuses on increasing in-process productivity.
