Governor of the US state of Montana, Greg GianforteThis Wednesday has announced the banning of the TikTok app, so it becomes the first country to take this action after the decision to start vetoing the use of Chinese companies’ services.
Gianforte has made it clear that he has taken this action «to protect personal and personal data of Montana people Chinese Communist Party”, as shown through his profile on the social network Twitter.
Because of this, he has shown that “TikTok is fair apps linked to foreign adversaries», the reason he ordered the information director of the State «to ban in the state network any application that provides personal information or data to foreign adversaries».
This controversial law, which comes as several lawmakers are calling for a nationwide ban on the app, marks another step in limiting TikTok –whose parent company is Chinese ByteDance– after security concerns rose in the West over the possible use of apps as Trojan horses to promote pro-China propaganda or collect user data.
The Chinese authorities have lashed out that, after a cascade of vetoes in recent months by various countries – the US, the UK and the EU – on the tools of public administration, there is political intent without any actual technological justification.
