More than a thousand people cross the English Channel to England in one day

LONDON, Sept. 23. (DPA/EP) –

More than a thousand people have crossed the English Channel into England in small boats in one day, just one day after 30,000 crossings were crossed so far this year.

The UK Ministry of Defense has confirmed that authorities have intercepted 21 vessels with a total of 1,150 migrants on board.

This figure, the third highest daily so far in 2022, has raised the total balance to 31,665 people and has led British authorities to set up new facilities to provide assistance to migrants.

Officials have set up special tents in the southwestern English city of Dover to protect hundreds of migrants as existing facilities begin to become overwhelmed.

The incessant flow of migrants to Britain motivated the then Home Secretary, Priti Patel, almost half a year ago to announce a project to send migrants to Rwanda.

While this measure was intended to prevent migrants from crossing the English Channel into the UK, since it was announced more than 26,300 people have entered the strait on an irregular basis.

London enthusiastically defended the deal with Rwanda. The first flight, scheduled for mid-June, was suspended due to legal issues.
